Problematic collaboration! Vincent Luti, the authority on these two carvers, is baffled by the costumed figure -- and much else about this stone. The borders, the tympanum swags, and the torso of the figure are definitely by John New. The head, however, is not New's work. The tablet lettering is by Gabriel Allen. Also, note the strange neckless joining of the head and torso. Head by (?) Allen, body by New?
